Tools to Take Action Now to Protect Women's and Gender Equality in Canada
Virtual Event

The elimination of the Minister for Women and Gender Equality is a major step backward for gender equity in Canada. This position has been essential in ensuring women’s rights are represented at the highest levels of decision-making for over 50 years. With an election approaching, now is the time to act—decision-makers are listening, and we must make it clear that this is unacceptable.

Here are three things you can do right now:

  1. Show up to your constituency office in person – Go to your constituency office with as many people as possible, they don’t all have to be from your constituency as long as one or two are. This is an election period, and representatives are paying attention. Demand answers and insist on the reinstatement of this critical role. Talking points are provided below to help guide your conversation.
  2.  Send an email – Use the template below to contact your constituency office. Simply copy, paste, and personalize it (fill in the yellow sections), feel free to personalize it. Find your representatives in both the House of Commons and the Senate [insert link], and encourage your friends and colleagues to do the same. The more voices they hear, the stronger our message
  3. Spread the word – Share the collective letter from over 350180 organizations online and with your network. Write to local media, organize locally, and demand better from our government. We must safeguard the basic infrastructure that has protected gender equity in Canada for over half a century.

Palestine Platform
Pledge, Endorse, Organize

Tell your MP and Canada's political parties to stand with Palestine

The Palestine Platform outlines the unified demands of the Palestinian community and people across the country who consider Canada’s position on Palestine a top election issue. It was developed by the Palestinian community and solidarity partners across Canada, and is grounded by Canada’s obligations under international law, as enshrined in domestic laws and policies.

Constituents can use this platform to evaluate the candidates in their riding to help them decide who to vote for on election day.  Candidates can review the platform to understand the expectations of Canadian voters who support justice for Palestinians.

By signing this pledge, you’re standing with the growing majority of people across the country who believe that the government must support Palestinian rights and freedoms, following our Canada’s obligations under international and domestic law. It’s that simple.

Use the pledge tool by clicking to link below to send an email to your MP and all political parties now. By taking action, you’re telling all parties that their position on Palestine will affect how you vote and act in this election.

In-Person Event
Every Saturday, 11am ET
300 King St E, Kitchener, ON
There are no words we can find for 436 Palestinians, murdered in their sleep at the hands of Israel/US bombs in 48 hours. All precious family members and friends, the lives of others evolved around them, now gone and the bereaved must continue without their beloveds. Their slaughter is not defined by a number of dead, it is defined by the lives around them that have been frozen in time.

The murdered have been martyred by the silence of governments, our chosen decision makers.  The silence of western governments that is fuelling the genocide. Mark Carney has chosen Marco Mendicino as his Chief of Staff. Mendicino a staunch Pro-genocide supporter, collaborator with JDL (Jewish Defense League) that is actually listed as a terrorist group in US. Let us not allow this silence, challenge it every day in every way.

Silence is the greatest weapon of destruction, so use your voice, speak out, have conversations and, in your listening you will hear your work to support Palestinian liberation.

See you on Saturday at 11am Kitchener Market!

WPSN-Canada
Emergency Statement on Gaza

Our Network welcomes the fact that several ministers of the Trudeau government have publicly countered Trump’s outrageous threats to annex the coastal enclave and to ethnically cleanse the Gazans. We demand that Canada do more:

1) immediately recognize the Palestinian state, as 147 United Nations did so, recently Spain and Ireland contradicting their NATO guidelines;

2) impose a robust arms embargo on Canada’s two-way arms trade with Israel;

3) expedite the family reunification program for Gazans with family in Canada;

4) use its influence with the State of Israel to restore the provision of aid to Gazans through UNRWA (the United Nations Relief and Works Agency);

5) prohibit Canadians from serving in the IDF and investigate Canadians in the IDF for war crimes;

6) remove the charitable status of all organizations in Canada who raise funds (tax-free) for entities in Israel which support the Israeli Defence Forces and the Israeli colonial project in Palestine;

7) play a role in ensuring that the rebuilding of Gaza goes ahead with the Palestinians in place.

Calls to Action
Cancel F35 contract. Canada shouldn’t spend billions on US fighter jets
Petition

Amidst Trump's economic siege and annexationist threats, it is unacceptable Canada is paying a US military giant $19 billion for 88 F-35s. Lockheed Martin’s fighter jet was chosen in part so the Canadian air force can better assist their US counterparts in offensive global operations. The US controls the F-35 source code and upgrades, giving Washington an effective “kill switch” on Canada’s fighter jets. Please take a minute to ask new Prime Minister Mark Carney to halt plans to buy F-35s, along with copies to the Opposition leaders:

Stop Killer Robots: #VoteAgainstTheMachine

You are more than data so states need to vote against the machine at this year’s UNGA.

Machines don’t know that you’re #MoreThanData - to them you’re just another piece of code. It’s time to take AI making life and death decisions off the table.

The regulation of Artificial Intelligence needs to catch up to the pace of innovation. If we accept the use of AI to dehumanize and kill people in conflicts, this has consequences for the use of these technologies in policing, border control and more. Call on your gov’t to #VoteAgainstTheMachine and support the resolution against killer robots at the UNGA this October.

International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace

April 24th, 2025

In particular, multilateralism is based on founding principles such as consultation, inclusion and solidarity. Its operation is determined by collectively developed rules that ensure sustainable and effective cooperation. In particular, they guarantee all actors the same rights and obligations by applying themselves continuously (and not on a case-by-case basis, depending on the issue handled).

Multilateralism is therefore both a method of cooperation and a form of organization of the international system.

The Founding of WILPF

April 28th, 2025

In 1914, suffragists throughout Europe had planned to meet to discuss the movement’s progress. But as World War I broke out, their plans were disrupted and they never met.

Despite the challenges they faced, they persisted. One year later, 1,136 suffragists from twelve countries met in The Hague, the Netherlands. Together, they decided to create the International Women’s Congress – later renamed the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom – with a goal to develop mediation strategies to end the war and, ultimately, eradicate the root causes of war.

And so, on 28 April 1915, WILPF was established.

Kebaowek First Nation Wins Second Court Challenge to Chalk River Nuclear Waste Site Over Threats to Bats and Turtles

By: Marie Woolf, Kebaowek First Nation

The Federal Court ruled in favor of Kebaowek First Nation on Friday March 14th, 2025, in a challenge to protect wildlife that challenged Canadian Nuclear Laboratories' permit from the federal Environment Minister to build the NSDF facility just over 1 kilometer from the Ottawa River. Kebaowek and Concerned Citizens of Renfrew County and Area argued that the forested site in Renfrew County is home to bears, endangered bats, and Blanding's Turtle. Friday's ruling by Justice Russel Zinn will force the Environment Minister to go back and reconsider the government's issuing of a Species at Risk permit and whether there could have been other viable locations for the site with fewer impacts on wildlife.

For Canada, nonviolent civilian resistance is the least devastating and most effective response to deter and defeat potential aggression.

By: The Conversation

Unfortunately, the common assumption is that national security depends wholly on military strength and alliances. But the emergency Canada is now facing demands a rethink.

For Canada, nonviolent civilian resistance is the least devastating and most effective response to deter and defeat potential aggression.

TPNW states agree the ban is the alternative to reckless nuclear deterrence and proliferation as Third Meeting of States Parties draws to a close.

By: ICAN

The Third Meeting of States Parties to the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) has successfully concluded at UN Headquarters with a powerful political declaration rejecting nuclear weapons and challenging nuclear deterrence, and adopting a host of decisions that strengthen the Treaty’s process.

86 countries participated in the meeting as states parties or observers, engaging in a robust and interactive debate during the week, adopting a political declaration and package of decisions. The meeting also counted the active participation of a thousand representatives from 163 civil society organisations, including many affected community voices, and nine International Organisations. Over 70 events took place in the context of the 3MSP, in the UN and across the city during Nuclear Ban Week.

Nuclear deterrence can never be responsible or sustainable security strategy

By: IPPNW
Our organisations, European partners organizations of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), are alarmed by the dangerous and proliferating rhetoric from some of our heads of states and governments in favour of a Franco-British nuclear umbrella. This dynamic undermines decades of European commitments to nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and international law, exposing a deep hypocrisy. We therefore welcome the work carried out by you, the states parties to the TPNW, in the intersessional period and specifically in the consultative process on the legitimate security concerns, as a constructive way to engage with this nuclear security debate.

Canada in the Age of Trump National Sovereignty & Foreign Policy in a Multipolar World

By: Dr. Ayyash, Dr. Desai, Yves Engler, Prof. Kevin Mackay
Since the election of Donald Trump, politics in the United States has been turned on its head. As a key member of the Western political bloc, and close historic ally of the US, Canada has experienced a particularly rude awakening. Our “neighbour to the south” is now talking openly about turning Canada into the 51st State, while levelling devastating tariffs on Canadian imports and instigating a trade war.

These political changes are unfolding upon the backdrop of emerging multipolarity. The ascendancy of the BRICS bloc, the collapse of NATO’s proxy war in Ukraine, and the ongoing genocide in Palestine all present unprecedented challenges to Canada’s traditional, U.S. – dominated foreign policy. In this discussion, panellists reflected on the challenges of this political moment and their implications for Canada’s security and place in a rapidly changing world.

An Artistic Plea for Peace
Due to the current political situation, the theme of war is once again omnipresent. The outcome is always the same: people are wounded, people are killed. But what happens to those that survive? They will never be the same. Traumatized, physically and mentally ill, internally dead, barely existing, their souls wounded, will they ever be able to return to a normal life? This unspeakable horror of war accompanies us all.

It is said that when the soul takes flight, the person dances. Let this dance be a plea for peace.
