Stop the Genocide in Gaza-Sign on Letter
Canada has confirmed it will resume aid to UNRWA and has voted to stop arms shipments to Israel.  However it has not actually stopped sending arms to Israel.  Please sign this petition calling on three urgent actions for Canada to take.
https://you.leadnow.ca/petitions/canada-stop-the-genocide-in-gaza

CANADA STOP THE GENOCIDE IN GAZA
1) Ensure that weapons shipments to Israel are halted immediately. This must include ending the "transfer" of weapons and components already ordered as well as any reaching Israel from Canada via the US.

2) join the case at the International Court of Justice brought by S. Africa, and now supported by Ireland, against genocide;

3) initiate a further meeting of the Security Council, aiming to pass a resolution which would set effective sanctions on Israel

Solidarity with the Students

Over the last few days, students in Montreal, Vancouver, and Ottawa have launched encampments and ongoing sit-ins on their university campuses, joining a growing global student movement in solidarity with Gaza (where there are NO remaining universities) and demanding their institutions divest from the companies enabling Israel’s genocidal war crimes.

For the last six months, a powerful and growing movement across the country has demanded an end to Canadian complicity in Israeli military violence, including an immediate and real arms embargo on Israel. Students are taking a brave and important stand right now to push these demands forward, and we all need to show up in solidarity with them.

Here’s How to Support

Show Up!

All of these campus actions are welcoming community members to come in person to support. Check out their donation requests, community guidelines, political demands, and head down to your local encampment today.

Stay Tuned

Stay tuned over the coming days for more actions, occupations, and encampments as momentum builds across campuses. Get ready for urgent requests for mobilization and support if police repression escalates.

Write to the CEOs of five major public pension plans that are investing in Israeli war crimes

Take a minute to write to the CEOs of five major public pension plans that are investing in Israeli war crimes.

Five public sector pensions, one in BC and four in Ontario have almost a quarter of a billion dollars invested in companies that the UN has indicated are complicit with supporting illegal Israeli settlements (war crimes) and over $2 billion in total invested in companies complicit with war crimes and arming Israel.

These combine with more than $22B of investments by the CPPIB and CDPQ in companies complicit with war crimes, occupation, arming Israel, and perhaps genocide. Together this is about $24 billion of investments that are complicit with supporting war crimes and support for the arming of Israel.

All except OMERS are invested in companies deemed by the UN to be complicit with supporting illegal settlements.

In all cases they are support arms manufacturers/surveillance companies,  and companies complicit with Israeli war crimes, and perhaps even genocide.

Demand Israel stop escalating violence that could spur World War III

Canadian officials immediately condemned Iran for launching missiles towards Israel, but they ignored Israel’s brazen war crime that elicited Iran’s reaction. In so doing, they are enabling Israel to escalate its violence on Iran and the region, which could spur a global conflict.

Take a minute to email Justin Trudeau, Melanie Joly and Jagmeet Singh to demand they condemn Israel’s violence and reduce direct Canadian complicity with the Israeli military.

Canada to Host Tests of Israeli Arms Tech Used on Palestinians
Article

Published by The Maple on April 23rd, 2024

Written by Alex Cosh

Canada’s Department of National Defence (DND) will host trial sessions for Israeli arms technology used to kill Palestinians and maintain apartheid and occupation during a three-week “sandbox” event in Alberta next month.

From May 27 to June 21, DND is giving a select group of military suppliers the chance to test products that are designed to counter aerial drones, with direct assistance from Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) staff and experts. Among those selected is a company called “Twenty20 Insight Inc.,” which is testing the “Smash Hopper counter-drone weapon station.”

The “Smash Hopper” is a remote control weapon system developed and manufactured by Israeli arms company “Smart Shooter,” whose technology is deployed by the Israeli military in fortifications that are used to suppress Palestinian dissent in the occupied West Bank, as well as in military hardware currently being used in Israel’s assault on Gaza.

Days of Significance
Red Dress Day
May 5th, 2024

May 5 is Red Dress Day, a day to remember and honour missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples (MMIWG2S+). Red Dress Day serves as a painful reminder of the ongoing genocidal crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people and invites solidarity and action.

Currently, Indigenous women make up 16 per cent of all femicide victims and 11 per cent of all missing women. Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ peoples are also 6 times more likely to be murdered than their non-Indigenous counterparts. These high rates of violence have drawn widespread expressions of concern from national and international human rights authorities, which have repeatedly called for Canada to address the problem.

However, nearly four years after the release of the Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, and two years following the release of the National Action Plan, only two of the 231 Calls for Justice have been implemented, while an implementation timeline has yet to be released.

Sign our e-action demanding Canada to protect the rights of Indigenous women and 2SLGBTQQIA+ land and water defenders. SIGN HERE

International Women's Day for Peace and Disarmament
May 24th, 2024

In the early 1980s, a group of pacifist feminists from across Europe united to protest the buildup of arms and nuclear weapons. Together, they established 24 May as International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament.

We honour their legacy and that of women everywhere leading the struggle against militarism.

As feminist peace activists from around the world, we continue to demand that governments take immediate action to end the daily threat and impact of weapons on people and communities everywhere.

The message is clear: we refuse violence as a solution to the world’s challenges. We are working for a just and peaceful world, one that meets human needs, not military ones!

Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security: A Foundation for Peace
April 27th, 2024
Mike Stimpson

The women, peace and security (WPS) agenda
was born from the advocacy of a global movement
led by women experiencing armed conflict, crisis
and instability. It is both a commitment to gender
equality and a call to action to promote and
protect the rights and agency of women, girls
and gender-diverse people.
The agenda has evolved since the year 2000,
when the United Nations Security Council passed
resolution 1325, prompted by the increasingly
complex and changing nature of conflict, emerging
security threats, new technology, competition
in the Arctic and outer space, and shifts in
the geopolitical landscape.
