Amplifying Voices: The Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan Demands Our Attention

While wars in Gaza and Ukraine are dominating media attention the past year, we cannot forget the people of Sudan who are also enduring an unimaginable crisis, caught in the throes of a devastating conflict that has spiraled into genocide and widespread starvation. Families are torn apart, communities are shattered, and countless lives are lost as violence escalates daily. The humanitarian toll is staggering: women and children are particularly vulnerable, facing not only the threat of violence but also the harrowing reality of sexual violence, malnutrition and disease. As the world watches, the urgent need for immediate action cannot be overstated. We must raise our voices for
those who have been silenced by fear and despair, advocating for humanitarian aid, protection, and a swift end to the atrocities being committed against innocent civilians.

The international community has a moral obligation to also respond decisively to this crisis. Each day that passes without intervention means more lives lost and more suffering endured. We must call on our governments and organizations to provide essential resources, support,
and safe passage for aid workers, ensuring that food, medicine, and shelter reach those in desperate need. Additionally, we must demand accountability for those responsible for these heinous acts, standing in solidarity with the people of Sudan as they strive for peace and justice.

The situation in refugee camps outside of Sudan are also horrible, with a lack of food, healthcare, education, sanitary conditions and threats of violence from within the camps.

One of the participant's in our film 1.5 Degrees of Peace, Nisreen Elsaim, is organizing relief efforts and has started a campaign to help raise funds for sanitary hygiene products for women & young women, as well as provide the option of internally producing and sourcing other hygiene products for these women living in the four camps outside of Sudan by contributing to her campaign.

Please stand in solidarity with Sudan by taking action.

Thank you.

Flowers of Palestine

—————————————
The flowers of Palestine
you will bloom again
in the garden of heaven.
Your blood stained body
we covered with white dresses and hidden-underground.
They will not be able
to hurt you anymore.

This world doesn't deserve
to hug and kiss you
but you will not be forgotten.
The day will come when you will be remembered for ages.

Your sacrifice for motherland will be written in the history of civilization.
Don't cry baby-
forgive us for not being able
to protect you and
give you a chance to live.☮️

At this webinar we'll be announcing a national #ArmsEmbargoNow day of action on November 16th with protests at facilities from coast to coast that produce parts for F-35 jets. Demand Israel stop escalating violence that could spur World War III

Canadian officials immediately condemned Iran for launching missiles towards Israel, but they ignored Israel’s brazen war crime that elicited Iran’s reaction. In so doing, they are enabling Israel to escalate its violence on Iran and the region, which could spur a global conflict.

Take a minute to email Justin Trudeau, Melanie Joly and Jagmeet Singh to demand they condemn Israel’s violence and reduce direct Canadian complicity with the Israeli military.

Arms Embargo NOW
We’re coming together to demand the Canadian government impose a full, immediate arms embargo on Israel.

Canadian companies and subsidiaries supply a wide range of components to Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fighter jet program, from machined parts, fuselage sections, and electro-hydraulic actuation system components, to power & thermal management system controllers...
  • Companies that participate in the F-35 program include: Honeywell, Magellan Aerospace, Apex Industries, ASCO Aerospace Canada, Ben Machine Products, PCC Aerostructures Centra and others.
  • Lockheed Martin’s F-35 fighter jets have become emblematic of the loophole that allows Canadian-made weapons components to be transferred, unregulated and unreported, to Israel via the U.S.
  • Héroux-Devtek, headquartered in Quebec, contributes parts and landing gear to Boeing’s F-15 fighter jet  program. It’s among the Canadian companies that supply components for Boeing’s F-15s, which are used by the Israeli Air Force to bomb Gaza.
  • Canadian companies also supply parts for Boeing’s AH-64 Apache helicopters, which are also used by the Israeli Air Force.

Stop Killer Robots: #VoteAgainstTheMachine

You are more than data so states need to vote against the machine at this year’s UNGA.

Machines don’t know that you’re #MoreThanData - to them you’re just another piece of code. It’s time to take AI making life and death decisions off the table.

The regulation of Artificial Intelligence needs to catch up to the pace of innovation. If we accept the use of AI to dehumanize and kill people in conflicts, this has consequences for the use of these technologies in policing, border control and more. Call on your gov’t to #VoteAgainstTheMachine and support the resolution against killer robots at the UNGA this October.

Days of Significance
International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict

November 6th, 2024

Though humanity has always counted its war casualties in terms of dead and wounded soldiers and civilians, destroyed cities and livelihoods, the environment has often remained the unpublicized victim of war. Water wells have been polluted, crops torched, forests cut down, soils poisoned, and animals killed to gain military advantage.

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equity and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) have established a partnership to collaborate on improving the understanding of the complex relationship between women and natural resources in conflict-affected settings, and make the case for pursuing gender equality, women’s empowerment and sustainable natural resource management together in support of peacebuilding. The first outcome of the collaboration is a joint policy report released on 6 November 2013.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women:
16 days of Remembrance and Action

November 25th, 2024

Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, an estimated 736 million women — almost one in three — have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life.

This scourge has intensified in different settings, including the workplace and online spaces, and has been exacerbated by post-pandemic effects, conflicts, and climate change.

The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign (Nov 25- Dec 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December).

War and climate change fuel a survival-threatening cycle
